It was a hot January weekend 2013 when “Australia’s Counsel of 13 Grandmothers Gathered. At the end of their Meeting they were all asked by the caretakers of the Lyell Deer Sanctuary to Cleanse and Bless the site of a recently created Hopi Native American Labyrinth. Even though the site was hidden the Grandmothers felt the new energies on arrival, something calling them. All welcomed the offer to Cleanse and Bless the Labyrinth.

They all gathered on that late Sunday afternoon walking and feeling the Labyrinths energies. Orange and Black/White Butterflies danced and played around the Grandmothers. Then it was time for Cleansing…one Grandmother stood at the entrance of the labyrinth calling in the creator, the four directions, guardians and all the elements of the land. Thanking Mother Earth and all that created this heartbeat energy and this Labyrinth. All other Grandmothers stood on all sides of the Labyrinth with tobacco in hand to bless the land the labyrinth resides on. The one Grandmother standing at the entrance walked the Labyrinth with Sage and feather in hand smudging the path as she walked….chanting a blessing to the land and Labyrinth.

The walk was supported by Clap Sticks echoing around the site in the womb of Mt Samson.

The walk seemed long. As the centre of the Labyrinth was reached Tobacco and Wishing Crystals where used to bless the journey of cleansing again all welcomed in the creator, the four directions, the guardians, mother earth and all who created this site. One of the Grandmothers Clear Quartz crystal Generators was placed in the centre to amplify the blessings given by all Grandmothers. A Chant was created to vibrate the heart beat of the labyrinth to the four corners of our world. Welcoming all to visit and discover her joy, fun and lightness. When exiting the Labyrinth the Grandmother respected the path and journey by walking backwards. The Labyrinth played with the Grandmother. Nudging her around and bringing her back to the center. It felt like the Labyrinth wanted to keep the Grandmother…..all Grandmothers just laughed and laughed….it was already playing and having gentle fun. Eventually the Grandmother skipped out of there with joy. All the time the Clap Sticks of Mt Samson kept their approving beat. The grandmothers had a wonderful joyful night thanking the caretakers of the Lyell Deer Sanctuary for such an opportunity. What a blessed place to gather the Grandmothers all said. That evening the Lyell Deer Sanctuary was gifted another deer orphan for their herd.

That is another story for another time.

The next day the Labyrinth was walked again to retrieve the generator…Clap sticks heard again with seven Sulphur Crested Cockatoos swooping low over the labyrinth as the Labyrinth was left to let others enjoy the joy and fun it will share when walking the Lyell Deer Sanctuaries Labyrinth.

Blessings from Grandmother Christine

THE HOPI LABYRINTH at Kupidabin Wilderness

Do you remember the fabulous musical fantasy movie ‘Labyrinth’ with David Bowie? A Tale of fortitude about a young lady on a journey through a maze against adversity and wickedness to recover her baby brother from a goblin king!

I had to look up the meaning, ‘a confusing set of connecting passages or paths in which it is east to get lost’ reference Cambridge Dictionary. They are recognisable in many cultures and I have walked several in Parks and Gardens around the world. One is constructed regularly at the Woodford Folk Festival by a group of conscientious women and WE have one here at Kupidabin Wilderness!

Our labyrinth is of Hopi design and was built ten years ago in 2012 at The Lyell Deer Sanctuary by 12 women from Sweet Medicine Dance Path Qld run by Dianne Ryan (now deceased) This project originated in the US by Janneke Koole for women around the world to ‘Create a Path of Beauty in their world. The event was recorded in a beautiful coloured book to remember the occasion and is kept in the Gallery within the Long House for perusal.

Alas, we have to move it from its present location! The intention is to find another site within our forested areas and invite the original team of ladies to join us on this project. We have a sponsor, GALACTIC GODDESSES DOWNUNDER for this relocation and are currently putting together a timetable of activities before the end of the year!

A Blessing of the new location is scheduled at that time in line with the energies of the Equinox’s. If you would like to be involved in this enigmatic undertaking, please contact Maureen. Text or Call 0402 092 741
